111 DOCTRINE I – BIBLIOLOGY 1 CREDIT
An introductory course providing a working knowledge of such concepts as inspiration, revelation, canonicity, authority, translation and the various translations. The goal is to understand the origins of the Bible and thus exalt God Himself.

121 OLD TESTAMENT HISTORY 3 CREDITS
A chronological survey of Joshua through Esther, examining Israel’s history under the judges, kings and captivities. Attention is given to the geography of Israel and the surrounding nations. Themes and outlines of each historical text are highlighted. In particular, the course contrasts a walk of sight with a walk of faith.

161 BIBLICAL FOUNDATIONS 1 CREDIT
An introductory survey of the Old and New Testaments, showing where each book fits in the canon and chronology of Scripture. A basic knowledge of significant themes throughout the Word of God give a solid foundation for understanding the Gospel of Grace.

162 PENTATEUCH 4 CREDITS
A survey of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. A working knowledge of topics such as the origin of man and his original state of innocence; the fall of man and its results; and the origin of sin and its remedy. The doctrines of Bibliology, theology, anthropology and soteriology are addressed. God’s grace and righteousness are emphasized.

163 JOB 1 CREDIT
The earliest written book of the Bible contains lessons for the believer about the sovereignty of God, the person and limitations of Satan, as well as life’s trials.

164 PROVERBS 1 CREDIT
The biblical understanding of wisdom. Proverbs presents truths for modern living that contrast wisdom and foolishness. Christian-living issues such as pride, humility, morality, work ethic and parent-child relationships are presented.

Maximizing academic potential by investigating practical issues such as note taking, studying, test taking, and time management. The “why” and the “how” are explained.

181 EVANGELISM IN A POSTMODERN WORLD 2 CREDITS
Defining worldview, epistemology and critical thinking. Tools to evaluate a worldview’s adequacy, with an in-depth look at postmodernism. Practice is given in building relationships with the unsaved, cultivating a worldview journal, evaluating the worldview using critical thinking and logic, as well as using the chronological Bible teaching method to communicate the biblical worldview.

Theology includes the study of the attributes, names, sovereignty, Trinity and existence of God. Anthropology includes the creation and fall of man, his material and immaterial parts (the body, soul and spirit), his state of innocence, and his fall. Hamartiology looks at the definitions and origins of sin in the universe. Christology includes the study of the humanity and deity of Christ, His attributes, virgin birth, kenosis (self-emptying) sinlessness, death, burial, resurrection and ascension. Special focus is placed on the redemptive work of Christ.

222 LIFE OF CHRIST 3 CREDITS
Investigation of the person and work of Christ, His deity and humanity. The Gospels are studied from a chronological perspective of Christ’s life, harmonizing the four accounts. The culture, geography and religious groups of Christ’s time are examined as they relate to the travels and teachings of Christ. Particular attention is paid to the problems of Pharisaism, the depravity of man, and Christ’s mission of redemption as well as the relevance of Christ’s teaching for believers today.

223 ACTS 2 CREDITS
As a transitional book, Acts demonstrates how the Gospel spread from Jerusalem to the Gentile world, how the Holy Spirit’s ministry expanded, and how the church became a distinct entity from the nation of Israel. The historical settings of the Epistles are examined to provide a backdrop for the Pauline Epistles. Theological issues of church polity, the role of tongues and miracles, water baptism and missions are also discussed.

265 PSALMS 1 CREDIT
An analytical and practical approach to understand the nature of the Psalms, divisions of the book, types of Psalms and their practical relevance today. Recognizing the genres of Psalms, such as didactic, imprecatory, praise and thanksgiving, is essential to the correct interpretation of poetical writings.

266 EZRA/NEHEMIAH/ESTHER 1 CREDIT
A survey of these books as they relate to the post-captivity period. Application of the books’ timeless principles is made to believers’ lives and ministry today.

267 PROPHETS 3 CREDITS
A survey of the major and minor prophets, placing them chronologically in Israel’s history. Focus is given to God’s judgment of sin and the promises of the coming Redeemer; as well as to the Tribulation, Millennium, Armageddon and the judgment of nations.

272 FAMILY RELATIONS 1 CREDIT
A study of biblical standards for the Christian family. God’s original plan for marriage and the roles of men and women in marriage are addressed. Inherent differences between men and women are explored, as well as the concepts of leaving and cleaving, finances, communication, sexuality, and dating.

282 BIBLE BASIS OF MISSIONS 2 CREDITS
A biblical look at God’s global plan for the redemption of mankind as revealed in the Old and New Testaments. Topics include the lost state of the heathen, the need for laborers to take the Gospel to those who do not know Christ, and the role of prayer and the Holy Spirit in relation to the believers’ responsibility in missions.

Using the methods learned in Hermeneutics I, students interpret Scripture in a systematic study of a specific book of the Bible. Working with the instructor in guided learning activities, students practice the literal historical grammatical interpretive method.

313 DOCTRINE III – SOTERIOLOGY/PNEUMATOLOGY 2 CREDITS
The study of salvation (soteriology) increases understanding of such truths as substitution, redemption, ransom, propitiation, forgiveness and atonement. The study of the Holy Spirit (pneumatology ) focuses on such qualities as the Holy Spirit’s deity, personality, indwelling, baptism, sealing, filling, signs and miracles, gifts and teaching. Learning to walk in the Spirit is emphasized.

332 ROMANS 3 CREDITS
The justification and sanctification of man by God. Provision for man’s sin is studied in depth through the doctrines of substitution, redemption, reconciliation, imputed righteousness, propitiation, guilt and justification. Understanding the grace of God increases as eternal security and the ministry of the Holy Spirit are discussed.

333 1 AND 2 CORINTHIANS 3 CREDITS
1 Corinthians addresses many issues believers face today such as division, Body function and gifts, immorality, taking believers to court, church discipline, marriage and divorce, liberty, the Lord’s Table, tongues, and the resurrection. 2 Corinthians looks at the reasons for suffering, church discipline, the contrast of the Old and the New Covenant, the judgment seat of Christ and the New Testament teaching on giving.

334 HEBREWS 2 CREDITS
The superiority of Christ is highlighted. The priesthood, sanctuary, covenant and sacrifice of Christ are studied. Five warning passages are examined in relation to the security of the believer. The issues of faith, rest and walking by faith are emphasized, while the foundations of the New Testament that are found in the Old Testament are addressed. Other themes include bitterness, prayer, hospitality, thankfulness and suffering.

341 GALATIANS 1 CREDIT
The believer’s position of liberty in Christ are discussed, as well as problems of legalism. The indwelling of the Spirit, fruit of the Spirit and walking in the Spirit are addressed, as is sanctification. The believer’s position and condition are covered extensively along with an overview of liberty, law and grace.

342 EPHESIANS 1 CREDIT
Attention to the believer’s position in Christ and its practical outworking in daily relationships: husband-wife, employer-employee, parent-child, and believer-Satan. The relationship of the Holy Spirit and the believer in salvation is addressed. The mystery of the church is also discussed.

368 RUTH/SONG OF SOLOMON/ECCLESIASTES 1 CREDIT
Biblical principles of love and marriage are found in the Song of Solomon, and the bankruptcy of humanism, materialism and man’s wisdom in Ecclesiastes. God’s provision for two ordinary people during a turbulent period of Jewish history is evident in the book of Ruth.

373 HOMILETICS 2 CREDITS
Small group work prepares students gradually for public speaking. By accepting the instructor’s coaching, observing other students teaching, and teaching or sharing themselves, students learn how to effectively communicate God’s Word in different settings.

382 WORLD RELIGIONS 1 CREDIT
The basic belief structures of the major religions of Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Catholicism and Shintoism are introduced with the goal of enhancing understanding and ability to communicate the Gospel in a multicultural world. The foundations of New Age thinking are identified.

383 INTRODUCTION TO NEW TRIBES MISSION 1 CREDIT
New Tribes Mission’s history and work are explored, along with relevant information about the training programs, organizational structure and daily operations. NTM’s Statement of Faith is considered, along with the mission’s philosophies and practices as they pertain to leadership styles and teamwork.

Attention is also given to various eschatological views on the Millennium, Rapture, and Seven-Year Tribulation.

415 NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH PRINCIPLES 1 CREDIT
The doctrine of the church (ecclesiology), its principles, leadership and application in the daily lives of believers. Issues related to water baptism, church discipline, plurality of leadership, elders and deacons and the qualifications, are covered extensively. An overview of leadership principles is offered as well as a study of women in ministry.

442 PHILIPPIANS, COLOSSIANS, AND PHILEMON 2 CREDITS
The suffering and kenosis (self-emptying) of Christ and the reward of His Father are studied. The Apostle Paul’s sufferings are also examples for believers to follow. Colossians examines legalism, mysticism and asceticism as well as relationships between believers (husband-wife, parent-child, master-slave, etc.) and unbelievers.

443 PASTORAL EPISTLES – 1 AND 2 TIMOTHY, TITUS 2 CREDITS
Organizational needs of the local church, qualifications for church leadership, and God’s definition of a leader are emphasized. Other matters include male/female roles in the church, man-achieved versus God-given ministry, and identifying and addressing false doctrine. Accurately handling the Word of God to equip the body for ministry is emphasized.

444 1 AND 2 THESSALONIANS 1 CREDIT
The future hope of the church in the Rapture, as well as important principles for Christian living and ministry are emphasized. The quenching of the Holy Spirit is considered in detail. An overview is given of eschatological issues of apostasy, the removal of the Restrainer, the Rapture, and the testimony of the church before others.

445 GENERAL EPISTLES – JAMES, 1 AND 2 PETER, 1, 2, AND 3 JOHN, AND JUDE 3 CREDITS
Significant issues for today are highlighted, including God’s purposes in trials, suffering, prayer, fellowship, brotherly love, dangers of the tongue, and how to receive and recognize God’s wisdom. The deity of Christ and the source and remedy for sin are investigated, as well as confession of sin, spiritual growth and maturity.

451 DANIEL/REVELATION 2 CREDITS
Daniel’s 70 weeks of years, the Tribulation and imminent return of Christ, the removal of the Restrainer, the Rapture, marriage of the Lamb, and time of the Gentiles are identified. The judgments, Heaven and Hell, the new Heaven and new earth, and Armageddon are also addressed. God’s prophetic plan for the nation of Israel, character studies from Daniel and the seven types of churches in Revelation 2 and 3 conclude this overview.

474 CHRISTIAN LIFE 2 CREDITS
Distinctions between justification, identification, sanctification and glorification, and rewards for faithfulness in regard to believers are addressed. Principles of spiritual growth found in the Old Testament and Gospels are explored with application to the Christian life. Contrasts between legalism, license and liberty in the Christian life are highlighted as well as distinctions between living under law and grace in the church age. Practical application of truth is emphasized.

477 CONTEMPORARY THEOLOGY 1 CREDIT
To equip for service in a world of vast doctrinal differences, modern-day theological issues and movements are analyzed in the light of Scripture. A framework for relating with those of different doctrinal backgrounds is developed.

486 MISSIONS IN CHURCH HISTORY 1 CREDIT
The evangelical spread of Christianity is observed from the early church in Acts throughout the first century. Movements that impacted missions are studied such as the formalizing of the church, the Roman Catholic Church, the Protestant Reformation and the resulting missions-minded individuals and agencies, culminating in the modern-day church age.

487 INTRODUCTION TO TRIBAL MISSIONS 1 CREDIT
Insight into the complexity of fulfilling the Great Commission in a tribal context. Cultural anthropology is discussed, making reference to the cultural universals utilized in tribal evangelism. Animism, cross-cultural communication and culture shock are explored as they relate to overseas missions. The importance of the chronological Bible teaching is also presented.

081 SUMMIT ASSIST 2 CREDITS*
Students are involved in rugged projects in isolated locations, working with unreached people groups in this short-term missions project overseas. Teams strategically aid in the work of tribal evangelism, performing physical labor that frees missionaries to meet the spiritual needs of the tribal people. Students are also challenged through daily teaching, training and discipleship times. Destinations vary from year-to-year depending on the missionaries’ needs.

082 SUMMIT INTERFACE 4 CREDITS*
This college-level course is taught in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Students begin developing cross-cultural skills as they interact with people from a different culture. They also learn what it takes to plant churches among unreached people groups. Worshiping God with believers in remote tribes is an added benefit of this program. The course includes core sessions in motivation for missions, evangelism/discipleship, cross-cultural communication, critical issues in missions, missions methods, and additional sessions.
